Typology/Elements

Public building of a monumental nature, isolated and formed by the body of the Theater more remains of the former convent of the Dominicans and other municipal buildings. It is a major work where the piece of the theater stands out, whose room occupies the courtyard of the cloister of the old convent, plus an elongated body with façade on Carrer Jaume I, which contains the Municipal Conservatory of Music and other municipal units. This body presents a ground floor and floor layout. The façade that faces Calle de la Muralla del Carmen is neoclassical, with a predominance of the full on the void. Access centered with three windows in arch on the upper floor and triangular pediment in retrogression.

The other facades have little interest. The interior of the theater includes the Italian typology, with stalls and four floors of boxes. Around it, two wings are conserved in the cloister of the convent, from the 18th century, with arched vaults and pillars with capitals worked, in a classic style. Another entrance takes place through a lobby parallel to Carrer del Mestre Blanc, where you can also access the Conservatory of Music. The construction system is formed by walls of load and cover formed by wooden frames. It should also be noted, as decorative elements, the classic capitals of the Cloister and the whole of the original decoration of the Theater.

Originally this space was a Gothic church of the Preachers (1321); Convent of the Dominicans (1684-1740-1835 and is currently used as a theater.
